The city of Pembroke has announced that as of Friday evening residents there are not under a mandatory or voluntary evacuation order.
"We recommend that if you do not feel safe in your current location, and you have the means to do so, that you make the decision on your own," a statement from the city reads. "As the storm updates are received, this situation may change. Please check on a regular basis for any updates."
Gov. Nathan Deal on Wednesday issued a mandatory evacuation order for all residents living east of I-95 and declared a state of emergency for 30 counties, including Bryan County. That has since been increased to 94 counties as the path of Hurricane Irma appears to have shifted west and will impact more areas across the state.
The mandatory evacuation begins Saturday morning, with contraflow on I-16 sending all lanes of traffic west only.
