Pembroke City Council voted Monday to name the city’s gym in memory of George Mikell "Mike" Foxworth, a supporter of sports and recreation in North Bryan.
Foxworth died in January 2016. A dedication will be held at a later date.
In other business, council approved an amendment to the existing intergovernmental agreement between the city of Pembroke and Bulloch County regarding the city’s ongoing well project.
The amendment was necessary as a result of a change in the proposed location of the well that was approved by Bulloch County.
Council also authorized the mayor to execute the easement for the water line when it reaches Bryan County.
In addition, the rezoning of 218 parcels within city limits was approved without much discussion, changing the classification from agricultural residential-1 to residential-1. Concerns of property owners regarding rezoning were allayed for the most part during the public hearing at last month’s council meeting.
Council also approved the Bryan County High School football team’s request to hold a bucket brigade downtown on July 22, from 8 a.m. until 1 p.m.
