Pembroke now has a new city attorney after a decision by the City Council during a called meeting Monday.
According to Mayor Mary Warnell, the council unanimously selected Richard E. Braun Jr. with Hinesville-based Jones, Osteen and Jones law firm to serve as the city’s counsel.
“We just look forward to working with him,” Warnell said Tuesday. “I think he’ll do an excellent job. He has expertise in the area of municipal law.”
Braun, who holds a law degree from the University of Mississippi, replaces Carol Bacon Miller, who held the city attorney position for six years.
Warnell said Miller decided to step down from the position because she has several local clients, including some who work for the city, which could cause conflicts of interest.
Braun’s position is effective immediately, Warnell said. According to Jones, Osteen and Jones’ website, Braun serves as the city attorney for Midway and Gum Branch, deputy city attorney for Hinesville and assistant county attorney for McIntosh County.
