The McAllister Elementary School Science Olympiad team is headed to the state competition May 12 at Kennesaw State University after capturing first place in the South Georgia Regional Elementary School competition.
Science Olympiad is a student tournament showcasing STEM in a team competition. Students in grades 3-5 challenge themselves to compete in a variety of science activities involving tests of knowledge and measurement skills in mathematics, earth science, biology, chemistry, physics and engineering. Students began practicing in October and worked weekly with volunteer coaches and teachers to prepare for the competition.
Team members are: Nolan Belfry, Aiden Cook, Ronald Dandy, Ava Follansbee, Ava Hendren, Myles Hopkins, Wyatt Hursey, Erika Kang, Braden Major, Finn McCutchen, Sadie Miner, Christopher Pallone, Alyssa Radnoczi, Evan Reese, Maddalynn Russell, Cedric Shouse, Kaleb Snyder, Sophia Stolley, Ava Voight and Marina Wolfe.
Team advisors are Jill Mock and Sarah Taylor. The volunteer coaches include Kerry Cook, Tracy Hendren, Natasha Hopkins, Vivian Huntoon, Chrissy McCutchen, Bivins Miller, James Reese and Amanda Woods.
