Members of the South Bryan Ministerial Association gathered Friday at New Life Church for a “Blessing of the Fleet” and to offer up their prayers for the coming school year.

Tom Seamon, associate pastor at New Life Church, said the tradition dates back several centuries when fishermen and boats in small European villages would receive a blessing from a local pastor for a safe and bountiful fishing season.

Rev. Allan McDonald of St. Anne Catholic Church said a prayer for Bryan County Schools transportation employees and sprinkled a new school bus with holy water while Rev. Clark Hubbard of St. Elizabeth Episcopal Church said a prayer for students. Pastor Joe Deplacito of Richmond Hill Vineyard Church said a prayer for teachers and administrators.

Pastor Stanford Anderson of Calvary Missionary Baptist Church, Pastor Ryan Ogden of New Life Church and Pastor Hubert Quiller of Restoration Worship Center also participated in the ceremony.
