An Ellabell woman said Monday someone has twice stolen solar lights from her husband’s grave at Ash Branch Church cemetery in Bulloch County, not far from the Bryan County line.

"I can’t believe what some people will do," said Sue Smith, whose husband Mike died in June 2008.

Smith’s husband grew up in the area where he is buried, Smith said. The most recent theft occurred at some point before April 20, when Smith found the lights missing after she went to change the flower at Mike Smith’s grave.

"How can you mess with someone’s grave and sleep at night, that’s what I want to know," said Smith, who called the Bulloch County Sheriff’s Department and a local TV station to report the missing lights. She said a friend suggested she call the media.

"He said I need to put in the (paper) to let people know there’s some lowlife out there stealing things off people’s graves," Smith said.
