A building that nearly got stuck under an interstate overpass last week finally made it to its Liberty County destination, but the structure’s exact location is a bit of a mystery to officials there.

As the Associated Press reported Friday, a truck hauling the structure had to change course when moving the building into Liberty County somewhere “near Hinesville.”

The building came within inches of the I-95 overpass on Hwy. 17 when the driver realized the top of the building they were hauling might not fit under it.

The driver, Angus Crawford of Crawford Specialized Movers, enlisted the help of the Richmond Hill Police Department in stopping traffic so that he could move his truck and the building out from underneath the overpass.

Crawford said he'd gotten clearance measurements from the state Department of Transportation before starting out, but the highway must have been resurfaced since the last measurements were taken.

Crawford decided to turn back and take another route – Hwy. 144 south to Belfast River Road and then to Belfast Siding Road, which crosses above the interstate – to get the store to its destination in Liberty County.
