Equipment failure at Hinesville's Fort Stewart water pollution control plant leads to spill
Nearly 5.5 million gallons of partially treated wastewater released Thursday into Taylors Creek

Hinesville announced Friday that its water pollution control plant on Fort Stewart released 5.47 million gallons of partially treated wastewater into Taylors Creek after an equipment failure. 

 The release said "operations staff discovered the wastewater release and acted quickly to resolve the malfunction. The plant is now back in compliance and awaiting parts to complete the repairs."

 The press release  also said: "Contingency-response procedures were followed and the appropriate regulatory agencies were notified. We do not anticipate any adverse public-health impacts as a result of this incident."
