A Richmond Hill man died Oct. 5 in South Carolina in what has been ruled as an accidental drowning.
Logan Wolfe, 23 was boating last weekend on Lake Hartwell, which is situated on the border of South Carolina and Georgia.
According to Georgia Department of Natural Resources law enforcement Cpl. Craig Fulghum, Wolfe and several friends were in a pontoon boat in the center of the lake when he fell overboard and never resurfaced.
Fulghum said Wolfe’s friends made several attempts to find him without any success.
A team of divers searched into the evening on Oct. 5 and returned to the water again early the following morning, Fulghum said. Wolfe was found around 10:30 a.m. under about 55 feet of water, he said, thanks to the help of a side-scan sonar that creates images of the floor of a body of water.
Wolfe died as a result of freshwater drowning and the death was ruled accidental, according to reports from Oconee County South Carolina Coroner Karl Addis.
Fulghum said the case was handled by South Carolina authorities after it was determined Wolfe fell overboard in their jurisdiction.
Wolfe was a 2008 graduate of Richmond Hill High School. He was the son of Mark and Carol Wolfe of Richmond Hill.
A visitation is from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Richmond Hill Funeral Home, and the funeral is at 3 p.m. Sunday at First Baptist Church of Richmond Hill. See the full obituary on page 3.
