The Bryan County Board of Commissioners will hold two of three public hearings Monday on a proposed 1.5 mill tax increase.
The first hearing is set for 10 a.m. in Pembroke at the County Courthouse. A second public hearing will be held at 6 p.m. at the Administrative Complex in South Bryan.

The third hearing is at 6 p.m. Thursday at the courthouse in Pembroke, and the final hearing is scheduled for 6 p.m. Aug. 12 at the Administrative Complex in Richmond Hill.

Though commissioners seemed divided over the necessity of a tax increase at a recent budget workshop, the county is proposing a tax hike of up to 1.5 mills, the first increase since commissioners raised taxes by 0.04 mills in 2009.
