Congressman Buddy Carter will host nine town hall meetings across the First District this week, including one Thursday in South Bryan County.

The event will take place from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. in the Board of Commissioners meeting room on the second floor of the Bryan County Administrative Complex, 66 Capt. Matthew Freeman Drive.

Pre-registration for the event is required. You can get tickets at https://buddycarter.house.gov/townhalls/ or by calling Carter’s Savannah office at (912) 352-0101.

“We are using a ticketing system to ensure constituents of the First District are able to attend town hall meetings in an orderly fashion,” Carter’s website states.

Similar events hosted by Republican members of Congress have been met with hostility over issues such as health care and immigration.

Carter drew national media attention in late July when he said on MSNBC of the Senate’s failure to repeal Obamacare that someone should “snatch a knot in their ass.”

A spokesperson for Carter later said: “This is a southern phrase used frequently throughout Rep. Carter’s lifetime which simply means get your act together.”

In a visit to Bryan County in early July, Carter confirmed he was running for re-election in 2018 and discussed several issues. You can read more about that at http://www.bryancountynews.com/archives/49684/.

Two Bryan County Democrats, Lisa Ring and Steve Jarvis, have so far announced they will seek their party’s nomination in the May 2018 primary to challenge the GOP nominee for the First District seat in November 2018.
