Though both are headed for a runoff in July, Jack Kingston and Buddy Carter proved the top vote-getters in Bryan County for their respective races.

According to the Secretary of State website results from Tuesday’s election, Kingston garnered more than 77 percent of the votes in Bryan County in the Republican race for the U.S. Senate seat being vacated by Saxby Chambliss.

Meanwhile, Carter earned more than 56 percent of the votes in Bryan County in the Republican race for the 1stCongressional District seat, being vacated by Kingston.

But statewide, both candidates failed to come out ahead enough to avoid a runoff. Kingston will face David Perdue on July 22 for the GOP nomination while Carter will face Bob Johnson.

Democrats also have a runoff ahead in their race for Chambliss’ Senate seat as Amy Tavio of Richmond Hill will face off against Brian Reece of Savannah. Tavio garnered 51 percent of votes in Bryan County.
