Bryan County gets ready for July 4 holiday

July Fourth is just around the corner and events will be taking place throughout the week across Bryan County in celebration of Independence Day.
Festivities will kick off Monday in Pembroke with a picnic and concert, followed by games, contests and Civil War demonstrations at Fort McAllister State Historic Park. And Richmond Hill will top it all off with the city’s annual celebration and fireworks July 6 at J.F. Gregory Park.
On Monday, the city of Pembroke and First Baptist Church will host the third annual Patriotic Picnic and Concert beginning at 5:30 p.m. The concert will feature the U.S. Army’s 3rd Infantry Division Band from Fort Stewart. The event is free and the concert will start at 7 p.m.
While in previous year’s the concert has been held outside on church grounds, all events will be indoors this year.
Fort McAllister will hold its annual Independence Day celebration from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursday at the state historic park.
The day will include hourly cannon and musket firings, Civil War demonstrations and drills, watermelon seed-spitting contests and much more.
Admission is $6.50 for adults, $6 for seniors and $3.75 for youths. Children 5 and under will be admitted for free.

And last but certainly not least, the city of Richmond Hill will hold its annual 4th of July celebration from 5-9:30 p.m. July 6 in J.F. Gregory Park.
The event will include live music from the band 3rd Class Citizen Band, as well as arts and crafts vendors, family fishing, inflatable water slides and more. The Richmond Hill Farmers Market will be held during the celebration as well, and there will be a fireworks display around 9 p.m.
Food and beverage vendors will be on hand. Coolers will be permitted, but no alcohol will be allowed.
