Meet Kimberly Long, Bryan County Elementary School’s 2010-2011 Teacher of the Year.

First, some background information is in order. Please tell readers a little bit about yourself.

I was raised in Pembroke and went through the Bryan County School System. I obtained my bachelors degree in Middle Grades Math and Science from Georgia Southern University and then went on to get my masters degree in Middle Grades Math and Reading and a certification in Early Childhood. I am presently working on my specialist degree in curriculum. I have been married for almost seven years to Paul Long and we share a wonderful 1 year old son together.

Why did you get into teaching?

I always knew I wanted to teach and was excited to return to Bryan County to do so. It was probably during high school that I definitely decided that I would declare teaching as my major upon entering college. During high school, I had a heightened interest in science. I attribute it to having awesome science teachers. Chemistry and Physics were my absolute favorite.
