ATLANTA – Judge Jay Stewart of the Atlantic Judicial Circuit Superior Court has been elected secretary-treasurer of the Council of Superior Court Judges of Georgia. His term, along with those of Council President Judge Dustin Hightower, West Georgia Judicial Circuit, and President-Elect Judge Paige Reese Whitaker of the Atlanta Judicial Circuit, runs through April 30, 2027.

Stewart was elected Superior Court Judge of the Atlantic Judicial Circuit on Nov. 7, 2006. After graduating from Pinewood Christian Academy in 1981, Stewart attended Georgia Southern College, earning a Bachelor of Science in Adult Education in 1986. He received his Juris Doctor from Mercer Law School in May 1991 and was admitted to the State Bar of Georgia in May of 1991.

After law school, Stewart maintained a general practice. From 2001 through 2006, he was a partner in Brown, Rountree & Stewart in Statesboro. Since Jan. 1, 2007, Stewart has served the Atlantic Judicial Circuit, which is comprised of Evans, Tattnall, Bryan, Long, Liberty and McIntosh counties. Stewart is a graduate of the National Judicial College in Reno, Nevada. He is a member and past president of the Atlantic Judicial Circuit Bar Association, and a member of the Council of Superior Court Judges. Stewart served on the Board of Governors at Pinewood Christian Academy from 1992 until 2005.

From 2023 to 2025, he served as Administrative Judge of the First Judicial Administrative District.
