Jean Bacon out at Bryan County Development Authority

The Bryan County Development Authority, has voted not to renew the contract of longtime Executive Director Jean Bacon. Her contract expires Dec. 31.

Though the board met Monday morning, the decision wasn’t announced until late Tuesday afternoon.

Ted Akins, vice chairman of the board said Tuesday the Authority wished to go in a new direction and do some new marketing. They will hire a new Executive Director.

In the press release emailed at 4:57 p.m. Tuesday, BCDA Chairman Sean Register said, "The board expresses their appreciation to Ms. Bacon for her dedication and service to the establishing of Interstate Centre, a class A industrial and business park located at the intersection of I-16 and US Highway 280. During her tenure, she has been instrumental in bringing a number of prominent businesses to Bryan County resulting in substantial dollar investments and jobs."

Bacon could not be reached by phone Tuesday evening.
