Last month, families, survivors, caregivers, and supporters gathered at The Pond at Henderson Park for the inaugural Lotus of Love Cancer Care Walk, a powerful event dedicated to raising awareness, celebrating life, and supporting those affected by cancer in the community.
The walk was hosted by Lotus of Love Cancer Care, Inc. (LOL), a newly established nonprofit founded by Dr. Johnnie Quiller, a breast cancer survivor herself. After overcoming her own diagnosis, Dr. Quiller felt called to create a ministry of compassion, hope, and practical support for others facing the journey of cancer.
“We want people to know they are not alone,” said Dr. Quiller. “When I went through my diagnosis, it was the support, prayers, and community that helped sustain me. Lotus of Love is here to extend that same love and strength to others.”
The mission of Lotus of Love Cancer Care is to provide practical, compassionate support for survivors, caregivers, and families affected by cancer. The organization offers care packages, meal assistance, transportation support, home care, lawn care, and other services designed to ease everyday burdens for those in treatment or recovery.
Over the past eight months, the nonprofit has also hosted monthly Cancer Support Group meetings featuring specialized guest speakers covering topics such as:
Nutrition and wellness during treatment
Hair replacement and beauty care
Mental and emotional healing
Personal care and lifestyle support after treatment The support groups have become a safe space for sharing, healing, and learning.
The Cancer Walk marks one of LOL’s signature awareness and fundraising events, along with the annual Dance Party “Hope in Motion,” held in June (Survivor Awareness Month) to celebrate survivors and raise financial support for continued services. Participants at Henderson Park walked in honor of loved ones — some fighting, some surviving, and some whose legacy still inspires. This year’s event was dedicated to Erica King, Dr. Quiller’s niece who passed away due to breast cancer on October 16th.
Lotus of Love Cancer Care is seeking volunteers, partners, and donors to expand its outreach in 2026. Community members, churches, organizations, and businesses are invited to join the mission of “Sustaining Hope, One Smile At A Time.”
