A property owner in Ellabell, near the 400 block, discovered skeletal human remains late Sunday afternoon, according to BCSO Detective David Ellis.

Ellis said Johnnie Carter, who resides at 578 Wade Carter Road, was pulling some trees while creating a buffer in a heavily wooded area near his property when he found the bones, which were not buried and located about 200 feet from the road. Carter immediately called the BCSO.

Sergeant Rick Hughes was the first on the scene, with Ellis shortly behind him. When he saw that the bones were human, Ellis called the Georgia Bureau of Investigation.

"This discovery creates a lot of questions that we just don’t have the answers to right now," Ellis said. "They’re (GBI) going to try to identify the body through dental records."
