Heating assistance opens for seniors on Dec. 1
cold

The Coastal Georgia Area Community Action Authority, Inc. (CGACAA) is offering eligible households one-time assistance with high-energy costs during cold-weather months. The program is available through the Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program, or LIHEAP, a federal program that is distributed locally by CGACAA to residents of Bryan, Camden, Glynn, Liberty, and McIntosh counties.

Appointments to apply for assistance can be made through CGACAA’s Community Services Division. Distribution is opened first to elderly (65 years or older) and medically homebound individuals beginning December 1, 2023, and then to the public after January 1, 2024.

How to Apply

▪ Seniors aged 65 or older and medically homebound household applicants can sign up for energy assistance appointments starting December 1, 2023, by calling 866-423-8081.

▪ All other eligible applicants can apply after January 1, 2024.

▪ Applicants must provide a copy of their most recent energy bill or statement of service from their utility provider, proof of household income for the last 30 days, a picture ID, and a valid social security card or a copy for all household members.

About LIHEAP

The Low-Income Heating and Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) provides one-time financial assistance to help eligible households address energy costs. This assistance can reduce the risk of health and safety problems, such as illness, fire, or disconnection. The LIHEAP program utilizes grants provided by the U.S. Department of Human Services.

“We are so pleased to offer this vital lifeline to our community’s most vulnerable residents,” said Tres Hamilton, CEO of Coastal Georgia Community Action Authority. “The LIHEAP program helps deliver the warmth of hope and helps ensure that families in need can thrive and prosper throughout the Coastal Georgia region.”
