Grab your sneakers and your dog and join in the Bryan Animal Caregivers 3rd Annual "See Spot Run" 5K Run and Walk on Saturday, March 29, at J.F. Gregory Park.

The run will kickoff at 9 a.m. sharp, with walkers starting at 9:15 a.m.

All proceeds from the 5K will benefit the Bryan Animal Caregivers Low-Cost Spay/Neuter Program, which is responsible for aiding in the sterilization of over 1700 domestic and feral animals since 2003.

"Something we did recently was a Spay Day in Ellabell," said Animal Caregivers President Lisa Stringfellow. "We offered the event with a co-pay of $10 and $20 and we actually did more than 200 certificates. We were really pleased to have that kind of turnout, but we need to fundraise to help make up the cost of providing events such as that."

The event will also offer a microchip clinic from 9 a.m.-11 a.m. The Liberty Humane Shelter will be providing the chips for $20, which can be used to locate a pet in the event they become lost.

Stringfellow said the group has added a lot more categories for this year’s race.

"In the past we’ve done overall winners male and female, and winners male and female with dogs; this year we’re doing More Than and Less Than 40 Pound categories for dogs and we’ve added age categories for runners, bringing it up to around 50 more categories to win in," she said.

Stringfellow is expecting around 150 participants, up from just over 100 last year, but said she hopes the estimation exceeds her highest expectations.

"We want everyone to come out," she said. "It really supports a great cause and it’s a lot of fun. It’s good to just come and be outside with your pet. Hopefully it’ll be a nice day and a great opportunity to socialize with other people and their pets."

All dogs must be on a leash at all times and owners must provide proof of their pet’s current rabies vaccine. Runners and walkers without a dog are also welcome.

All participants will receive an event t-shirt. Advance registration is $20 and registration the day of the event will be $25. Advance family registration by mail for $45 includes two adults and two children, with each additional child requiring another $5. All pre-registration forms for families must be postmarked by Monday, March 24 and can be mailed to Bryan Animal Caregivers, P.O. Box 104, Richmond Hill, GA 31324.
