Kandiss Taylor, current Georgia Republican Party 1st District Chair, commemorated the start of her campaign for the GOP nomination in Georgia’s 1st Congressional District this Friday evening with a fundraising event in Savannah. Set against the Moon River marsh, family, friends, and supporters alike gathered to support Taylor’s run for Congress.
Guests and decorations alike were bedecked in patriotic red, white, and blue while a classical pianist set the mood for the event. Southern cooking and refreshments lined the table for party-goers and many took advantage of the ensemble after a passionate blessing was delivered.
Regarding her upcoming campaign for Congress, Taylor said she’s “excited about being with the people, spending time with them, and showing them what I’m going to do when I get there (Washington D.C.), and (how I) represent their values.”
This is not Taylor’s first political campaign: she previously challenged current Governor Brian Kemp in 2018 on a gubernatorial platform of “Jesus, Guns, and Babies”, which was sported on some guests’ T-shirts at the evening fundraiser.
The 1st Congressional District seat is currently held by Republican Rep. Buddy Carter (R-GA), who is eyeing a Senate seat in 2026, challenging incumbent Jon Ossoff. (D-GA)
In her congressional run, Taylor is re-emphasizing the same core messages she delivered in her unsuccessful run for the Governor’s seat.
“Morality is the most important thing to me. Jesus Christ is the most important to me, as well as serving the people and applying biblical principles in government. Our country was founded on Jesus Christ and so I want to go up there and exemplify that,” Taylor said.
Taylor added that she is particularly concerned with the lack of regulation in regards to pornography, saying that “people become addicted to it, just like gambling, and just like drugs. I want to see some restrictions there that we don’t have now.”
In the evening, Taylor said she was most looking forward to meeting with her supporters and hearing what they want in a representative because “this is their seat.”
