Garden club offering $1,000 scholarship

The Richmond Hill Garden Club is once again offering a $1,000 scholarship for 2023. The deadline for application is April 15.

This scholarship has been renamed the Mary Burns-Richmond Hill Garden Club Scholarship. Ms. Burns, a longtime member of the garden club, has served in every office of the club and was responsible for establishing the scholarship program. The scholarship is available to a qualified graduating senior at Richmond Hill High School. No affiliation with the garden club is necessary.

Candidates must enroll in the 2-year or 4-year college, university, or technical collage located in or out of Georgia and work toward an associate or bachelor’s degree. They must pursue a major in a field related to environmental concerns, plants, and / or gardening. These majors include, but are not limited to, Horticulture, Floriculture, Landscape Design, Landscape Architecture, Environmental Design, Environmental Horticulture, Botany, Biology, Plant Pathology, Wildlife Science, Habitat or Forest Ecology, Land Management, or any other garden-related major such as Nursery Management or Arboriculture.

Applicants will be judged on academic achievement, extra-curricular activities, volunteer projects, innovation and enthusiasm, and a 250-word personal essay.
