Friday’s Santa Scramble tees off Children’s Fund
Fundraiser

Few things in Bryan County spell Christmas like a golf tournament established nearly a quarter century ago.

That tournament, now in its 23rd year, tees off Friday at the Richmond Hill Golf Club. Known as the Santa Scramble, the event annually raises tens of thousands of dollars to keep the Bryan County Children’s Fund and it’s Empty Stocking Program in business.

“I cannot say enough good things about that golf tournament and those who organize and those who participate in it” said Wendy Futch, head of Bryan County Family Connection and the driving force behind the Program. “They are our biggest sponsor and they mean so much to what we do.”

Background The Empty Stocking Program to provide gifts for children in need was started in 1996 by Mary Stafford and the Bryan County News. It is administered by Futch and funded through donations and fundraisers by individuals, local businesses, civic groups, schools and churches.

And, of course, a certain golf tournament. To donate to the fund, make checks payable to Bryan County Children’s Fund, PO Box 1176, Richmond Hill, GA, 31324. No donation is too small.

This year, the deadline for applications is Nov. 18. Applications can be completed in-person at the BCFC office in Pembroke or at the Jacob Grant Community and Teen Center in Richmond Hill.
