A Fleming man was killed in a vehicle accident that occurred at 10:17 p.m. Friday on Highway 17 at mile marker 14, according to a report filed by Georgia State Patrol Trooper Robert Barry.

The report said Walter Phillips, 53, was driving a 2001 Ford Ranger pickup north on Highway 17. Arthur Walthour, 40, was pulling a trailer with his 1992 Toyota pickup in a southbound lane. The trailer lost its left wheel, became unhitched and crossed into the northbound lane. The trailer sideswiped Phillips' vehicle, causing him to lose control. His pickup ran off the left side of the road and struck a tree.

The GSP's Specialized Collision Reconstruction Team is investigating the accident.
