Fresh produce giveaway planned for Friday in Bryan County
food giveaway

Richmond Hill Lions Club will partner with United Way of the Coastal Empire to distribute 700 boxes of fresh fruit and produce at two locations in Bryan County on Friday, Sept. 18.

This hunger relief effort will help many people who are in need due to the continued economic impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. No proof of residency or income is required to receive a food box.

Food distribution will begin Friday morning at 10 a.m. at the Pembroke Christian Church, 116 W Bacon Street in Pembroke, and at 12 p.m. at J.F Gregory Park, 521 Cedar Street in Richmond Hill.

People who wish to receive a food box should remain inside their vehicles at the distribution sites while volunteers load into car trunks or back seats. Volunteers will utilize masks, hand sanitizer, and practice appropriate social distancing.

As in July, the Lions Clubs of Georgia have partnered with Collins Brothers Produce of Forest Park, Georgia to participate in the USDA Farmers to Families Food Box Program which is providing the food boxes for this distribution. Each household can receive 1-2 boxes depending on size and boxes will be available to pick up for other households with a maximum of 4 boxes per vehicle. Food boxes will be distributed while supplies last.

This Bryan County food distribution event is truly a community effort involving not only the Richmond Hill Lions Club and United Way of the Coastal Empire but also Bryan County Family Connections, Pembroke Advanced Communications, Pembroke Christian Church, the City of Richmond Hill, and a huge number of community volunteers.
