Freeman Project scholarship available

The Freeman Project is now accepting applications for its annual USMC Capt. Matthew Freeman Memorial Scholarship. This scholarship was established to honor the life of Matthew Freeman after he was killed in action on August 7, 2009 in Afghanistan.

 Matthew graduated from Richmond Hill High School with honors in 1998 and went to the United States Naval Academy where he was able to fulfill his life-long dream of becoming a Marine Corps aviator.

A student exhibiting the same high academic standards, leadership, community involvement and dedication to God and country as Matthew will be awarded this scholarship. Primary scholarship winner can receive up to $4,000 to further his/her post-secondary education.

Graduating seniors, residing in Bryan County and attending Bryan County High School, Richmond Hill High School, a private high school or an accredited home school program, who meet the application’s criteria are encouraged to apply by April 1, 2026.

 Completed applications must be submitted directly or postmarked no later than April 1, 2026 to Memorial Scholarship, c/o Lisa Freeman, 641 Mill Run Rd., Richmond Hill, GA 31324 OR delivered directly to Mrs. Freeman at the same address. Incomplete applications will not be considered. Scholarship finalists will be asked to participate in a personal interview with Freeman Scholarship committee.
