Fort Stewart officials gave the "all clear" at 1:45 p.m. today to reopen the installation post office, which was locked down when an unknown substance was found. The Fort Stewart Fire Department Hazardous Decontamination Team responded to the incident around 12:30 p.m. today.

"A post office employee was admitted to the Winn Army Community Hospital emergency department after coming in contact with the unknown substance," said Fort Stewart spokesperson Kevin Larson in a written release.
The post office housed in Building 418 on Hase Road was closed and Fort Stewart police blocked Hase Road between Steel Road and Vilseck Road. The emergency department at Winn Army Community Hospital was also closed.

Fort Stewart officials discouraged vehicular and pedestrian traffic to and from the post office and the area surrounding the facility until the area was deemed secure.
