Area residents along with local and national elected officials convened at J.F. Gregory Park on Saturday to have a little fun and show appreciation to wounded warriors.
“This event is a chance for us to give a very small token of appreciation to men and women who have sacrificed so much for us,” said Rhonda Johnson Gordon with the Fort McAllister Sport Fishing Club that, in conjunction with the city of Richmond Hill, hosted the Wounded Warrior Appreciation Fun Day.
The event sought to give soldiers and the community a chance to come together and enjoy each other’s company, as well as to provide the children of Richmond Hill a chance to do some fishing.
Richmond Hill Mayor Harold Fowler and former mayor Richard Davis were in attendance to support the soldiers, as was Congressman Jack Kingston, R-Ga., who served as the guest speaker.  He gave a pro-military speech to help kick off the day of celebration.
“There are parts of the country where they don’t know and love military the way we do,” said Kingston.
