First responders feted
First responders lunch RH

On Thursday, Sept. 30, residents in Richmond Hill sponsored a free Low Country Boil lunch for first responders and law enforcement at JF Gregory Park.

Numerous tables extended down the middle of the pavilion, lined with various side dishes, desserts, and seafood.

The Liars Club and DP club are the primary sponsors and providers.

Ellis Phillips is the primary organizer, with help from his friends and family members and Richmond Hill City Council member Robbie Ward.

“I catch and cook all of the shrimp myself. Our wives bake the cakes and desserts and make a lot of the sides. We do this once every couple of months or so, and we have been doing this for 15-20 years.” The event is in honor of the law enforcement and first responders and to show their appreciation for all they do in the community.

Decision on potential Parkers’ Kitchen location delayed

Bryan County Commissioners on Tuesday night deferred a decision on whether to rezone some 3.8 acres near the historic Burnt Church Cemetery to allow a Parker’s Kitchen convenience store. The vote to defer the decision for 30 days to look into concerns raised by opponents to the project came after several residents – including parents of children buried in the 195-year-old cemetery – urged commissioners to deny the rezoning.
