Fire destroys south Bryan home

The Bryan County Fire Department South Division put out a house fire at 121 Hardin Road, off Hwy. 144 in south Bryan, but assistant county fire chief Otis Willis said the home was a complete loss. The Richmond Hill Fire Department assisted in the call.

There were no fatalities. The homeowner, Charles Stafford – not to be confused with land developer and former Gregory Park site owner Charlie Stafford, reportedly cut his hand after he broke a window in an attempt to rescue his dog from the flames. Willis said the rescue was unsuccessful.

Willis said the cause of the fire has not been determined, but it looks as if it sparked in the back portion of the residence.
This was the fifteenth home fire in Bryan County so far this year, according to Willis.
