The deadline for Bryan County residents who are appealing their 2006 property taxes to pay the bills they got in December is Feb. 28.

That deadline remains even if the appeal hasn't been settled, Tax Commissioner Debbie Newman said.

"Once the appeal has been settled, I'll make an adjustment and either refund them or rebill them, which ever one applies," she said.

In all, there were 861 appeals after last year's revaluation, according to Bryan County Chief Tax Assessor Dan Rolff. There are roughly 15,000 parcels of property in the county.
