Ellis and Jean Phillips named Friends of the City
Ellis and Jean Phillips named Friends of the City

Richmond Hill Mayor Russ Carpenter, left, presented the Friends of the City award to Ellis and Jean Phillips at the August city council meeting on Tuesday.

Ellis, far right, is a veteran who also served in the local marine rescue squadron. He was instrumental in the development of J.F. Gregory Park and donated supplies for the building of the current City Hall. Both he and Jean have a legacy of giving back.

The Phillips have been hosting appreciation lunches for first responders in Bryan County for around 20 years. They began a local toy drive collecting toys for local children at Christmas, and have hosted many fundraisers to help others during difficult times in life.

Mayor Carpenter recognized the Phillips for their many years of service and contributions to our community. “Their example teaches us all how one should help their neighbors,” Carpenter said. The Friend of the City Award was established by the City of Richmond Hill to recognize and show appreciation to those who made exemplary contributions to the community.
