After a lengthy campaign, Richmond Hill City Council Post 2 candidate Kevin P. Bowes prevailed in the runoff race Tuesday evening, earning a decisive 906 votes out of 1,197 ballots cast. (75.69%). Challenger Buck Holly earned only 291 votes, or 24.31% of the vote.
Bowes posted a message on Facebook Tuesday night: "I wanted to thank everybody who came out to vote, for or against. I never could it without the support of you all. We are in this together."
Holly released a concession statement early Wednesday morning: “Thank you to everyone in Richmond Hill who supported my campaign and took part in this election. The voters have spoken, and I respect the result.
Congratulations to Kevin Bowes on winning the Post 2 seat. The race is over, and it is time to get back to work for our community. I will continue supporting efforts that make Richmond Hill stronger.”
Turnout reached 10.80% of registered voters.
