Effingham man charged in Ellabell robbery

BCSO Detective Donnie Thomas said the man who robbed the Mighty Mike’s convenience store on Eldora Road in Ellabell on Sept. 11 has been arrested.

Thomas tracked down and arrested Effingham resident Fred English, 23, on Sept. 22. Thomas said this was not an easy case to crack because positive identification could not be established through eye witness accounts or through grainy surveillance video.

"I followed a lot of leads and kept tracking him since the robbery," Thomas said. "We were able to identify his clothing, which was a big help. I have those clothes in my possession now."

English is being held at the Bryan County Jail where he awaits a bond hearing. He is being charged with two counts of armed robbery, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and possession of a firearm with the intent to commit a felony.
