Donations of clothes, food and toys are being accepted in Pembroke and Richmond Hill after a Thursday night fire destroyed an apartment building in Pembroke and left six families without a home.

By 1 p.m. Thursday, donations were filling up the city council meeting room and Pembroke City Hall, and it remains open until 5 p.m. Friday for donations.

In addition, Pembroke City Administrator Alex Floyd said donations will be accepted Saturday and Sunday from 1 to 6 p.m. at the city pool at the Harn Center. Donations will also be accepted at Bryan County Family Connections, and Floyd said a number of churches will take up special offerings Sunday.

Also, according to Floyd:

Pembroke Girl Scout Troop 30079 is scheduling pickups over the weekend. Lucy Belle Farms is hosting a benefit Saturday Night.

Richmond Hill Fire Department is organizing a drop box for donations as well.

And, Wendolyn Wells has organized a GoFundMe account.

The cause of the fire has not been determined.
