The Bryan County 2009 tax digest must be submitted to the state by Oct. 10. This deadline is based on a second extension for submittal requested by Bryan County Tax Commissioner Debbie Newman.

The state’s actual deadline for Georgia counties to submit their tax digests was Aug. 1.

Newman said her office must first wait for the digest to be prepared and reviewed by the Bryan County Tax Assessor’s Office, and then must wait for the county and school board governments to set their millage rates for 2009 before taking the digest to Atlanta.

Before millage rates are set the levying authority, such as a county government, must advertise three public hearings one week in advance of each hearing and then hold the three public hearings before voting on a proposed mill rate increase, Newman said.
