County closes in on curbside recycling

Residents living in the unincorporated areas of Bryan County may not have to haul their recyclable waste to the dump anymore.

The Bryan County Board of Commissioners unanimously voted Tuesday to authorize contract negotiations with Republic Waste for twice-monthly curbside recycling pick up county-wide. The vote comes after what officials called a successful pilot program in the Buckhead subdivision in South Bryan.

County Administrator Phil Jones estimated that contract negotiations could take around 30 days. The commissioners would still have to approve the altered contract with Republic Waste.

A few residents spoke in favor of curbside recycling at the meeting Tuesday.
