Construction work to revitalize Pembroke’s TOS Theatre is officially underway, according to Fernanda Camacho Hauser, Director of Downtown and Economic Development with the City of Pembroke.
Dublin, Georgia-based Garbutt Construction has commenced work on the old theatre after its construction bid was accepted by Pembroke City Council in December.
The TOS Theatre, located in downtown Pembroke, was built by Italian immigrant S.G. Tos and previously hosted live performances and popular films until it closed down in the 1970s.
The estimated timeline for completion is 2027, said Camacho Hauser. In the meantime, road closures pertaining to the theatre revitalization work can be found on the city of Pembroke’s website and Facebook page. As of Thursday, the intersection of W. Bacon Street and Anderson Lane–where TOS Theatre is located–is likely to be affected.
