The city of Richmond Hill reports that a minor wastewater discharge occurred Dec. 3 from a manhole at the end of Golden Grove Lane and the entrance of the lift station on Bristol Way.

Estimated discharge was less than 3,000 gallons.

The incident was reported to the EPD coastal district office in Brunswick.

The discharge is blamed on an "electrical component failure at the lift station." The electrical components have since been repaired, the city said.

The affected area was neutralized with calcium hydroxide to sterilize the soil. Approximately 4.000 gallons was recovered in affected waters and returned to the collection system for treatment.
