SD Gunner Fund will hold its second annual Sporting Clay Target Tournament on April 17 at the Dorchester Hunting Preserve in Midway.

SD Gunner Fund, based in Richmond Hill, is dedicated to providing service dogs, therapy animals, financial assistance and more to veterans, first responders and exceptional needs children.

The Sporting Clay Shootout tournament begins with registration at 9 a.m.  According to organizers, the catered event includes 15 natural terrain clay pigeon target stations simulating the unpredictability of live-quarry shooting, offering a great variety of trajectories, angles, speeds, elevations, distances, and target sizes. Welcome swag bags, country style lunch, top shooter prizes and special custom auction items will be part of the event.

Sponsorship packages are available to businesses, clubs, and individuals.

In 2020, during the pandemic, SD Gunner Fund said it still trained 16 service dogs for veterans, 11 service dogs for children and 4 institution therapy dogs and serviced over 33,000 children.

The organization also said it paid over $5,000 in veterinary care and saved, trained and adopted 14 rescue dogs. It fed two medical facilities, six police precincts, two fire stations, one EMS station, five pharmacies and one pediatric facility -- all while funding over 10 local restaurants and their staff during the height of the COVID 19 shut down.
