The Bryan County Fire Department and Georgia Forestry are continuing to investigate a Feb. 20 woods fire in Ellabell that burned appoximately 20 acres.

Bryan County Fire Department–North Division responded to the reported fire on Dr. Blitch Road.

Upon arriving on the scene, firefighters encountered a large woods fire with containment efforts hampered by gusty winds.

Chief Jim Anderson requested Georgia Forestry to respond and fire units were set up in a defensive mode to protect structures as the fire raced unabated through the woodlands.

Georgia Forestry responded with three "fire plows" and a Chief Ranger to supervise the fire attack.

Using fire plows to plow breaks around the fire, personnel were able to bring the fire under control in approximately one hour.

Anderson thanked members of Georgia Forestry as well as his own firefighters for their tireless efforts in protecting citizens during these times of crisis.
