Car catches fire on 204
car-fire

An older model Volkswagon Beetle went up in flames on the side of Hwy. 204 just inside the Bryan County line Friday afternoon. The car belonged to Samantha Murray, 16, who was driving the Beetle with her stepfather, Lee Williams, when the car began smoking and the brakes failed, Williams said. By the time Murray was able to get the car stopped, they saw smoke and realized it was on fire. No one was injured, according to Bryan County Emergency Services Director Jim Anderson. He said Bryan County Fire was dispatched at 5:18 p.m. and arrived at the scene five minutes later, but the car was totally engulfed in flames. It was Murray’s first car.
