Cancer claimed the life Bryan County Board of Equalization chairman Owen Thayer Sunday. He was diagnosed in March.

Thayer was a former member of the Development Authority and helped run the annual Seafood Festival for many years. He owned the Richmond Hill-based Coastal Atlantic Mortgage along with his wife, Chamber of Commerce Chairman Janet Thayer.
