Small farm conference March 31

The 2011 Georgia Small Farm Conference, with a theme of “Making Every Acre Count,” will be March 31-April 1 at The Foundry Park Inn & Spa, 295 East Dougherty St., Athens.
Learning opportunities will include: small farm success stories; marketing to your consumer; keynote speaker, Gary Black, commissioner of the Georgia Department of Agriculture; insurance and liability concerns; certifications for organics and naturally grown; and much more.
There will also be tours of two small farms, Plow Point Farms, a sustainable farm operation with pasture raised chickens and 100 percent grass-fed beef, and Whippoorwill Hollow Farm, a working certified organic farm with a diverse array of sustainable agricultural practices.
Producer scholarships awarded as funds are available. The deadline for the scholarship application and registration is March 24.
