ATLANTA — After a six-week campaign, Kroger said Savannah-area customers and associates raised more than $16,600 for the “Can Hunger” campaign to benefit America’s Second Harvest of Coastal Georgia.
From Nov. 13 through Dec. 24, Kroger customers supported the annual campaign by purchasing $1, $3 and $5 icons.
Each icon purchased benefits Feeding America food banks and helps to provide local families in need with up to 19 meals.
The donations raised during the 2011 Can Hunger campaign support the food banks and communities in which they were raised.
In total, Kroger’s Atlanta Division surpassed its campaign goal by raising more than $517,000 throughout its 214 stores across Georgia, South Carolina, Eastern Tennessee and Northern Alabama. This total is a new Atlanta Division record and equates to approximately 1.8 million meals.
“The overwhelming amount of donations raised during this year’s ‘Can Hunger’ campaign is a testament to the character of our customers and associates across the Atlanta Division,” said Glynn Jenkins, director of communications and public relations for the division. “Kroger is incredibly grateful for the support of our customers as we work to ‘can hunger’ in the communities we serve.”
