Hinesville starting farmers market

Hinesville’s first farmers market this Thursday promises a host of bargains, including its hours of operation. The market will be held from 4-8 p.m. each Thursday, from May 6-Oct. 28, at Bradwell Park and along Commerce Street in downtown Hinesville.
Hinesville Downtown Development Authority Director Vicki Davis said holding the market in the late afternoon on a weekday should provide residents more convenient shopping hours. School will be out and many working people have clocked out for the day, Davis has previously stated. These hours also will benefit vendors, she said.

“The Hinesville Farmers Market may be different than those that our community is familiar with in that it occurs on Thursdays and is held later in the day,” Davis said.  “There are many benefits to holding the event at that time, including allowing farmers who participate in other markets to attend Hinesville’s market as well as being held during a time when downtown experiences the most traffic.”
“Fresh produce, agricultural and farm items, baked goods, specialty foods, floral and plants, arts and crafts, prepared food, live entertainment and restroom facilities will be available throughout the (market) season,” Davis said.
As of press time Saturday, Davis said 12 vendors were scheduled for the first market with plans to facilitate additional vendors as more produce is available.
Vendors may obtain an application from the HDDA office, 877-4332 or discoverdowntown@coastalnow.net
