Chamber to celebrate new physical therapy practice

The Richmond Hill/Bryan County Chamber of Commerce will host a ribbon-cutting ceremony for BenchMark Physical Therapy at 11:30 a.m. Monday at 60 Exchange St.

BenchMark Physical Therapy is an evidence-based physical therapy practice with an emphasis in orthopedic rehabilitation, injured worker programs, sports medicine and various other specialty programs.

BenchMark offers an in-house orthopedic residency program, accredited by the American Physical Therapy Association, and expertise in orthopaedic manual therapy, a hands-on approach to patient care.

BenchMark is open from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Mondays; 10:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays; and from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesdays and Fridays. Extended hours are available as requested and the clinic offers complimentary assessments with an appointment.

Physical therapist Nicole Calkins serves as the clinic director at the Richmond Hill BenchMark Physical Therapy. She earned her Doctorate of Physical Therapy from the University of Dayton in Ohio in 2014. She is ASTYM and Dry Needling Certified along with being a Functional Capacity Evaluator and an APTA Certified Clinical Instructor.  She also completed an 18-month orthopedic physical therapy specialist residency and recently sat for her orthopedic certified specialist examination in March 2017.

Calkins treats a variety of conditions. They range from post-operative care to back pain and sports injuries. Additionally, she treats both acute and chronic neck pain and headaches. She also can aid in sports performance, concussion recovery and strength and performance training.

Her clinical interests include orthopedics, sports medicine, treatment of sacroiliac joint, hip and spine injuries, women’s health and treatment of temporal mandibular joint dysfunction.

Calkins moved to Richmond Hill from Greensboro, North Carolina, in September 2016 to open and become a partner in the Richmond Hill BenchMark clinic. She is actively involved with the YMCA and participates in The WOD three days per week. She enjoys running, biking, hiking and any outdoor sporting event.
