PEMBROKE — The Bryan County NAACP Branch #5648 will host a special literacy event, “Leaders Who Read: Opening Books, Opening Doors,” on Saturday, November 1, at 12:00 PM in the Pembroke Library Conference Room. This community event is part of the branch’s ongoing effort to “build literacy, one story at a time”.
The program will feature local leaders reading to children and families, highlighting the importance of reading as a lifelong skill and community connector. The event includes free entry and a book giveaway to encourage reading at home and help build personal libraries for young readers.
“Our goal is to inspire a love of reading and show that leadership and literacy go hand in hand,” said Keisha Ford, Education Committee Chair. “When children see community leaders take time to read, it sends a powerful message about the value of education.”
The Bryan County NAACP plans to make “Leaders Who Read” a quarterly event, providing families with regular opportunities to engage with community leaders and strengthen literacy in Bryan County.
Education is one of the cornerstone programs of the Bryan County NAACP, which is committed to empowering communities through learning, advocacy, and civic engagement.
The Bryan County NAACP invites all families, educators, and community members to attend this uplifting event and celebrate the power of storytelling.
