Richmond Hill City Council Post 1 incumbent JoAnn Bickley officially announced Friday that she will run for another term. She will face off against former councilman Van Hunter on the Nov. 3 city election ballot.

"In the past four years, we’ve made some good decisions and we need to continue our plans," Bickley said.

Bickley said her experience over the last four years is crucial now more than ever because the economy has created a decline in revenue.

"It’s not a positive time, but we can make it a positive time if we tighten up our belt," she said. "It’s a goal of mine to avoid curbing services or raising taxes."

Bickley said the current council has been able to achieve this goal thus far and cited the recent decision rendered on a tiered scale approach to the mandatory water rate increase, which made it that the only households affected are those that use above-average quantities of water.

Bickley called the forthcoming City Center "one of the greatest things we have done. It’s going to be a place that we can finally hold events like a big wedding reception while also creating a source of revenue for the city … By locating it where we did, we maintained the integrity of the park, which is very important to me … The amphitheater will be a great way to enjoy the arts inside the park as well. I want my children’s children to enjoy the park, and I’m proud of what we’ve done there."
