A man was arrested Monday three days after a traffic stop led to an hourslong standoff with law enforcement, according to a release from the Bryan County Sheriff’s Office.
The man, identified as Cassius Hardel Gray, was driving along Georgia Highway 119 in a black Cadillac Escalade last Friday evening, where a Georgia State Patrol Trooper attempted to conduct a traffic stop for a violation of Georgia’s Hands-Free Law.
Gray refused to stop and eventually pulled into a residential driveway. Claiming to be a federal agent, he ran inside the home and shortly afterward brandished an AR-style rifle before retreating back into the home. The state trooper was not injured.
Additional law enforcement agencies responded to the scene, and officials worked for several hours to negotiate Gray’s surrender, according to the release. However, Gray was not taken into custody that day. Georgia State Patrol Command Staff secured arrest warrants and Gray was later arrested Monday at the Pembroke Police Department without incident.
Gray currently faces four charges, which are: aggravated assault on a public safety officer, obstruction of a law enforcement officer, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, and unlawful use of a wireless device.
Gray is currently being held at the Bryan County Jail awaiting bond and arraignment hearings, the Sheriff’s Office said.
